The 5 Purposes

Fish

St. Andrew's patterns its life around the 5 New Testament Purposes of The Church. We build these purposes into every person, every small group, and every ministry. By following Christ's lead, we will be a great church.

Here are the purposes:

  • Fellowship (Incorporating New People into the Life of St. Andrew's)
  • Discipleship (Training People in the Ways of Jesus - Prayer, Study and Action)
  • Ministry (Finding Our God-Given SHAPE and Using It for The Good of All)
  • Outreach (Bringing in and Caring for Those Outside our Church)
  • Worship (Giving Thanks to God and Having God Form Us for Life)

The 5 Purposes are found in Jesus' words in the Gospel of Matthew.

"You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind (Worship). This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important:

Love your neighbor as yourself (Ministry)." Matthew 22:37-39 (NLT)

"Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations (Outreach), baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit (Fellowship). Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you (Discipleship)." Matthew 28:19-20 (NLT)

Each person entering into the St. Andrew's Community is encouraged to participate in our Purpose Driven Classes, 101 - Membership, 201 - Maturity, 301 - Ministry, 401 - Mission, and a SHAPE Interview in addition to becoming a regular part of our Worship life.
